Getting to Know...Craig Janik

by Bold Apps

Craig is the Star in ‘DarkStar Collection’. We were selling Craig’s first notebook editions back in late 2016, as PocketNotebooks, and have continued ever since.

We asked Craig our usual questions…

Why did you start designing notebooks?

I hated that I could only write on one side of the page due to paper quality and bleed through – that was the first thing I went after, paper quality.

What’s behind your design?

I’m unfussy. I like the design to be stripped down. Minimalist, but instantly recognisable as DarkStar Collection.

Who are your notebooks for?

Anyone who wants a high quality notebook, at a fair price. (And, my little girl.)

How do you use notebooks?

Mine are used for daily tasks as it is the only way I can get things done. Having said that, I have had this question paper as a “to do “ for over 6 weeks now. A ‘To-Do’ list is no guarantee that I get things done!

I also use it to capture ideas, and plot my adventures.

What’s next for you?

I am working on plans for larger format notebooks with some sort of a planner and an included writing instrument.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Have I mentioned I love stationery?

Describe yourself in three objects.

Notebook
Pen
Watch

Notebook, Notes App or both?

Just notebooks – I can’t get on with apps even though I am s big fan of technology.

What’s in your pencil case right now?

I don’t own one :(

Pencil, ballpoint, gel, or fountain pen?

Pencil first, then fountain pen, then any other. As long as there is something, that the most important thing.

Which three famous people, (living or dead) would you like to have dinner with?

Jean Claude Biver (Hublot watches and marketing-god)
Tim Ferris
Oprah Winfrey

What’s the best thing about the place you live?

All of it – It’s Wales!

What’s your most treasured possession?

Letters and drawings from my daughter

Where are some of your favourite Stationery spots on the Internet?

‘Nero's Notes’ of course, but mostly blog sites where I can read about pens and stationery. Some of my favourites:

Gourmet Pens

Papers Pens Poets

The Pen Addict
